About Me

I am David Martins. My major is Anthropology. My goal is to write an ethnography based on my research on the contemporary Global Indigenous community and social issues. My interests lie in learning more about the protection and expression of Native people’s rights.  I have completed several term papers in relation to this subject for upper level Anthropology and Sociology courses at F.I.U. I have conducted research on similar subject matter both in school and on my own time.  I am a good medallion candidate because of the initiative and commitment I have displayed, both academically and personally, towards a cause I feel strongly about. I have already completed Global Learning courses well beyond the amount required by the program. My dedication goes beyond the classroom. I am also an active member of the Global Indigenous Group and I have been with them for over a year. The G.I.G. is a student-run organization and our mission is to raise awareness of various issues in the global indigenous community. I have worked with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida, the Indigenous Ainu of Japan, and helped organize an exhibit of Aboriginal Women artists from Australia. In the time that I have been  a student, my organization, the G.I.G., has hosted lectures by academic scholars, authors, visiting professors, and Native American elders and leaders.
I have dedicated myself to my career plans through both my curricular and extracurricular involvement.
